PN needs to update its policies to reflect society - Alex Perici Calascione
The Nationalist Party needs to start the process of adjourning its policies to reflect Maltese society of the day, Alex Perici Calascione, candidate for the post of Leader of the Nationalist Party, said.
Unveiling a number of his proposals to councillors and party members as part of his campaign Partit Rebbieħ, Perici Calascione said that the party needed to be more positive to better understand the evolution of society in order to reflect this in its policies, which requires a more proactive approach.
“This does not mean that all we believe in today must end. It only means that a political party that aspires to lead the country must understand the realities and circumstances of the people it represents,” Perici Calascione said, insisting that the final goal was for the Nationalist Party to have policies of and for the people.
One way of doing this is to set up a commission that attends district forum meetings in order to consult with individuals, entities and other relevant bodies in order to spearhead this process.
Perici Calascione also proposed an update of the documents that outline the bases of core Nationalist Party values – Fehmiet Bażiċi and L-Għeruq Tagħna – in order to reflect the nation’s evolution over the years.
“The Nationalist Party needs to keep understanding local and regional issues – small as they may be, they are all relevant as they are what matter to the people they affect.” This is what Perici Calascione underlines as being a top priority for him to do.
He concluded by saying that this was the way forward for the Nationalist Party and also the way for it to take a lead in moving forward the political agenda of the country.
