Strachan names Scotland squad for World Cup qualifiers against Lithuania and Malta

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan has called up Millwall’s Jordan Archer and Hibs’ Steven Whittaker for the forthcomin­g World Cup qualifiers against Lithuania and Malta.

Millwall goalkeeper Jordan Archer has received his first callup to the Scotland squad, with Hibernian utility man Steven Whittaker being recalled.

Newcastle United duo Grant Hanley and Matt Ritchie also return to the Scotland squad. And West Bromwich Albion winger Matt Phillips is also back from injury.

Scotland, who lie fourth in Group F, face Lithuania in Vilnius on 1 September and then host Malta three days later at Hampden Park.
