Portelli sums up Saturday’s election result as manifestation of hidden anger against establishment

- ■ Gabriel Schembri

Defeated PN leadership contender Frank Portelli yesterday thanked his family and asked for their forgiveness for bringing them “into the line of fire” with him.

Dr Portelli took to a Facebook post to thank all those who supported him during the leadership race while at the same time referring to the “clique” and the hatred that was shown during this campaign.

Dr Portelli, who only managed to get eleven votes after the first round of voting in the PN leadership election, said that he was not expecting so much hate.

“Thank you to all those who helped me and deeply sorry for bringing my family into the line of fire of a hate monger who forms part of the klikka. Please forgive me, I did not know so much hate could reside in one human being.”

Before this post which emerged yesterday morning, Dr Portelli summed up his reaction to the voting which took place on Saturday. He mentioned the “hidden anger against the establishment” which propelled Adrian Delia to the top.

I accept that my ideas were rejected, he wrote.

“Delia carried the day. The hidden anger against the establishment and against the hate mongers could be felt and it became a force which propelled Delia to the top. The PN leadership was conspicuous by its absence at Dar Centrali last night. They were absent at the counting hall too on 4 June.”
