Fight breaks out between passengers on Ryanair flight from Newcastle to Spain after 'mortal drunk woman kicked off'

-

A fight broke out on board a holiday plane as a 'drunk' woman passenger started kicking off. Punches were thrown by both men and women over the seats as other passengers stood up to try and get away from the brawl. The trouble flared on the Ryanair Newcastle to Alicante flight as it was coming in to land. A video was posted online by Lucy Norris, of Blyth, Northumberland, who was going on holiday with five friends. The 30-year-old said: "It was just as we were about to land when the woman started kicking off. "She was shouting, screaming and making a show of herself. She had been rude to a few people on the flight and I think she was mortal drunk. "The police were made aware and we thought they were going to come on and drag her off but it didn't happen. "They were waiting there as we got off." The video showed a man arguing with the woman before another woman, who was next to him in a blue shirt, appeared to throw a punch at her. The footage then appeared to show the man throw some liquid from a plastic cup over the woman sitting behind him. The woman, wearing a yellow shirt, retaliated by standing up and throwing a punch at the pair. Passengers could be heard shouting for the trio to calm down as an air hostess tried to intervene. The footage showed the man and the woman in the blue shirt leave their seats and move towards the front of the plane. The flight left Newcastle International Airport at 10.55am on Thursday and arrived in Alicante at around 4pm. Mrs Norris said the flight was not delayed by the incident. Robin Kiely, head of communications for Ryanair, said: "The crew of this flight from Newcastle to Alicante (August 31) requested police assistance upon arrival after a passenger became disruptive inflight. "The aircraft landed normally and the passenger was met by police. "We will not tolerate unruly or disruptive behaviour at any time and the safety and comfort of our customers, crew and aircraft is our number one priority. "This passenger has been banned from flying with Ryanair and this is now a matter for local police. "This is exactly why we are calling for significant changes to prohibit the sale of alcohol at airports, such as a two-drink limit per passenger and no alcohol sales before 10am. "It's incumbent on the airports to introduce these preventative measures to curb excessive drinking and the problems it creates, rather than allowing passengers to drink to excess before their flights.”
