Murder in Attard

● Search mounted in Rabat, Zebbug area

-

One man was shot dead yesterday and another was left grievously injured at Raymond's Upholstery on Mdina Road, Attard.

The incident took place at around 6.15pm. The murdered man was named as Angelo Mangion, 60, from Qormi.

The injured man, Raymond Grima, who is 60 years old, was taken to hospital by ambulance under police escort. Grima is the owner of the shop.

The victim was reportedly hit three times while Caruana was hit four times.

It is understood that Grima told the police, before he was operated on, that a drunk man whom he does not know had stumbled into his shop.

A short while later a motorbike stopped outside the shop. A tall, thin man got off the bike, entered the shop and opened fire on the men. He then rode off into the night.

A huge manhunt was underway yesterday in the areas of Rabat and Zebbug.

Dozens of police officers were involved. An army helicopter flew over the search area for several hours.

Four men from Qormi were interrogated in connection with the murder.

Magistrate Aaron Bugeja was on the site of the shooting conducting an inquiry.

Police Commissioner Lawrence Cutajar was also on the scene.

The road was been closed to traffic as forensic experts clad in white looked for clues inside the shop as well as outside.

This was the seventh murder this year and the first one after the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia.
