Jason Pisani wins Veteran category in the Major of Frameries

The Major of Frameries 2018, was organised last weekend in Belgium with the participat­ion of 9 Maltese players.

Jason Pisani emerged as the most successful of the locals as he won the Veteran category.

The event started on Saturday with the individual competitio­ns.

Pisani played his final against the Austrian player Gunther Bambersky and won the game 1-0.

In the Open category, 6 Maltese players took part.

The best result was obtained by Massimo Cremona who reached the semi-final.

Cremona lost his game against Luca Colangelo by ‘sudden death’ after the game result was 1-1.

Derek Conti made it to the quarter finals losing against the same Luca Colangelo with the score 42. Angelo Borg, Samuel Bartolo and Jean Tabone made it till the last 16 while Joseph Borg Bonaci was eliminated in the group phase. The Spanish player Carlos Flores was the winner of this category.

In the Under 19 category, Jurgen Balzan had a very positive tournament, winning the group with maximum points, but was eliminated in the semi-final by the winner of this category, the Belgian player Martine Antoine.

The game was won by ‘shots’ 20 after the game result was 1-1 even after the extra time. The team event was held on Sunday.

Malta was represente­d by Valletta Subbuteo Club which was composed of Derek Conti, Joseph Borg Bonaci, Samuel Bartolo, Emanuel Camilleri and the Belgian player Pascal Scheen.

Valletta Subbuteo Club won all the group phase games and finished first in group.

They were then eliminated in the quarter finals by the winning team, Reggio Emilia of the Maltese player Massimo Cremona.

The final score was 2-2 but Reggio Emilia won with score difference. Jean Tabone was playing with his Italian team Salernitan­a which also made it to the quarter final.
