BOV celebrates Women on International Women’s Day
The 8th March is recognised as International Women’s Day worldwide. BOV female employees have this morning received a token gift to commemorate this event.
Speaking about the initiative, Charles Azzopardi, Executive PR & Marketing said, “Bank of Valletta has grown into a full-fledged financial services organisation. Areas of business that up to a few years ago were non-existent or peripheral to the organisation have been developed and become core to our organisation. We have female colleagues who today represent 60% of the Bank’s workforce, across the cross-section of units and business areas. Thus, we felt that this was an appropriate occasion to surprise our female colleagues with a token gift of appreciation.”
In addition, various units across the Bank took this opportunity to show their appreciation to their female colleagues. Case in point, female staff at San Gwann branch were treated to a healthy breakfast on arrival at their place of work, compliments of their male colleagues. Other branches, like Fleurde-Lys and Victoria, Gozo saw in the occasion an opportunity to give a sweet surprise to the female customers visiting the branch.
The Bank encourages initiatives by teams at branches which help to strengthen the bond with the community in which they operate. “Bank of Valletta is one of the largest employers on the islands,” said Mr Azzopardi. “An occasion like this helps to build teamwork and enhance the culture of approachability which has always been a trademark of Bank of Valletta.”
International Women’s Day is commemorated worldwide. Its roots can be traced back to 1908 when 15,000 women marched through New York demanding voting rights and better pay. Today, it is an annual appointment that celebrates women’s achievements across different spheres from political to social.
