Prestigious eighth place for Zammit in FIA Hill Climb
This weekend was the weekend of the popular FIA Trento-Bondone Hill Climb, a hill climb race that starts in Trento Adige valley at 275 meters in the North of Italy, formerly part of Austria and finishing at 1650 meters at the Monte Bondone. The course is 17.3 km in length at an average gradient of 7.9%. This year it was an important race for the Malta Motorsport Federation for having the responsibility to man some of the 60 Marshall Post need in this FIA event as well as for Island Car Club driver Matthew Zammit that participated.
The Maltese Federation License B Marshalls, Jeffrey Shaw, Marjan Kas, John Spiteri, John Darmanin, Edgar Rossignaud, Timmy Zammit, Gabriel Abela, Aaron Pisani and Ray Agius were shadowing with other FIA License A Marshalla the handling the paddock, the lineup as well as closed park reserved for racing vehicles and their teams, and other active posts on the track. Maltese Marshalls and other officials already took part in ACI CIVM events; however, this is more significant as it is an FIA Hill Climb part of the FIA Hill Climb Championship. This is of added value to the importance of the Maltese presence. The Maltese Marshalls are accompanied by two Federation Officials, William England that followed the race direction and Charlene Bartolo that followed the rigorous Administrative process.
Matthew Zammit finished this FIA Hillclimb Championship in Italy in the astonishing 8th position overall competing with over 260 competitors. Christian Merli on Osella 3000 won this race while Zammit in his Radical SR4 Suzuki 1600 finished 7 places behind and 1 minute 6 seconds later. This is a great result for Zammit considering the length of the course as well the difference in car specifications and power.
