Maltese ambassador to the US lays wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
Ambassador of Malta to the United States Pierre Clive Agius led the wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia.
The ceremony was held on 15 August at 11am. This is marks first time a Maltese ambassador has laid a wreath at this important military cemetery.
Ambassador Agius chose the date specifically to commemorate the arrival of the Santa Maria Convoy and the 75th anniversary of Operation Husky, which was launched from Malta by General Dwight Eisenhower, later president of the United States, and which led to the liberation of Italy during WWII.
Ambassador Agius will be terminating his mission in Washington DC shortly.
