Press freedom NGOs on Malta fact-finding mission
From 15 to 17 October 2018, a group of six international press freedom and freedom of expression NGOs will be undertaking a joint mission to Malta.
The groups represented are: Reporters Without Borders (RSF); the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ); the European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF); the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ); the International Press Institute (IPI); and PEN International.
They will support local civil society’s actions to mark one year since the assassination of investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, and conduct factfinding into the case and the broader free expression climate in the country.
They will meet with Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and other government officials, as well as a wide range of civil society stakeholders.
The mission will publish a joint statement of findings on conclusion, to be presented in a press conference on 17 October. Representatives of each organisation will be available for comment or interview.
