Press free­dom NGOs on Malta fact-find­ing mis­sion

From 15 to 17 Oc­to­ber 2018, a group of six in­ter­na­tional press free­dom and free­dom of ex­pres­sion NGOs will be un­der­tak­ing a joint mis­sion to Malta.

The groups rep­re­sented are: Re­porters With­out Bor­ders (RSF); the Com­mit­tee to Pro­tect Jour­nal­ists (CPJ); the Euro­pean Cen­tre for Press and Me­dia Free­dom (ECPMF); the Euro­pean Fed­er­a­tion of Jour­nal­ists (EFJ); the In­ter­na­tional Press In­sti­tute (IPI); and PEN In­ter­na­tional.

They will sup­port lo­cal civil so­ci­ety’s ac­tions to mark one year since the as­sas­si­na­tion of in­ves­tiga­tive journalist Daphne Caru­ana Gal­izia, and con­duct factfind­ing into the case and the broader free ex­pres­sion cli­mate in the coun­try.

They will meet with Prime Min­is­ter Joseph Mus­cat and other govern­ment of­fi­cials, as well as a wide range of civil so­ci­ety stake­hold­ers.

The mis­sion will pub­lish a joint state­ment of find­ings on con­clu­sion, to be pre­sented in a press con­fer­ence on 17 Oc­to­ber. Rep­re­sen­ta­tives of each or­gan­i­sa­tion will be avail­able for com­ment or in­ter­view.
