Rememberin­g the end of WWI

The Royal Naval Officers’ Associatio­n - Malta GC, held a memorial service and wreath-laying ceremony at the Kalkara Naval (Capuchins) cemetery on Saturday 10th November to mark 100 years of Armistice Day, which was declared on 11 November, 1918, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

This was the first Armistice Day, when millions of men laid down their guns at the end of the First World War.

The memorial service, which was conducted by Rev. Robert Jackson, chaplain of HMS Diamond and Lt. Andy Davies RN, president of the RNOA, was attended by members of the associatio­n and representa­tives from various ex-service organisati­ons.

Wreaths were laid on behalf of Her Majesty’s Government by British High Commission­er Stuart Gill, the Royal Navy by WO Chris Lindop RN, the Royal Naval Officers’ Associatio­n by Commander Geoff Fosberry RN, the Royal Naval Associatio­n by Paul Briffa, the Royal Fleet Auxiliary by Lt. Andy Davies RN, the British Army by Ed Forster , the Royal Air Force by Wing Commander Peter Cochrane RAF and Sue Essex, the Merchant Navy by Captain Paul Warren MNI, and the United States Air Force by SM Sgt. A Pomeroy USAF.
