Sliema Hs and Floriana Young Stars maintain their challenge

-

Sliema Hs and Floriana Young Stars maintained their challenge to leaders Qormi Daikin with two straight- forward victories against the sides at the bottom end of the league table. In the first game of the day, Floriana YS huffed and puffed as they struggled to overcome a resilient Rabat side. Rabat held out for a whole half but when Mark Camilleri fired in a typical short corner strike two minutes into the second, their resistance began to fade.

The second goal eight minutes later, a goal from open play from Justin Farrugia, sealed the issue for the Greens. Keith Calleja and Glen Bonello umpired the game.

In the second game of the day, umpired by Nathan Galea and Shawn Mifsud, Sliema Hs beat White Hart 3-0.

Despite superior possession and technique, Sliema failed to set to many houses on fire going into the half time break with a onegoal lead thanks to Alessandro Amore’s goal.

Two further goals in the second half from Ryan Dalli and Christian Sammut gave a more realistic picture of the game but all the Sliema goals game from open play as they failed to convert a single short corner move.

The National League continuesdmid-week with the two matches postponed from the 24th February.

Last Wednesday Sliema Hs. faced Floriana Young Stars and on Thursday Qormi Daikin faced White Hart.

Tomorrow White Hart will face Floriana Young Stars at 09:00 and Qormi Daikin face Rabat at 11:00 in the match that will draw the 2nd round to an end.
