‘Anti-Fouling Your Boat’ presentation

The Malta Cruising Club hosted their members to a very interesting evening on the new developments and challenges in the anti-fouling of sailing and power boats.

The well attended activity followed a three topics presentation, namely, – (1) Marine Fouling Control – The Way Forward; (2) EU Biocidal Products EU Directive; and (3) Anti-fouling Boat maintenance – A Practical Guide:

The speakers on the day were, Andrew Magri Overend, Managing Director of Med Tek Limited local, agents and distributors of International Paints in Malta, with technical support from Sig Davide Cadamuro, Registered Marine & Yacht Coating Inspector RMCI/106 (Akzo Nobel Coatings SpA (Italy) and, Etienne Hopkins, Certified N.A.C.E. II Coatings Inspector (Med Tek Limited).

The highlight of the evening was the information on the research being carried out by Akzo Nobel Group on a slippery hull coating which contain no biocides that harm the environment. Moreover, this product has antifouling properties which last longer than conventional antifouling paints currently available on the market.

The Presentation was held at The Waterfront Hotel, Sliema, and organised by the Malta Cruising Club in collaboration with International Paints.
