TV presenter says he will resign government consultancy roles after joining Air Malta

Karl Stagno Navarra has been employed by Air Malta as Head of Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility, the national airline has confirmed.

“Mr. Karl Stagno Navarra has been selected for the post of Head of Public Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility after a call was issued and a diligent selection process followed,” an airline spokesperson told this newsroom.

The appointment was also confirmed by Stagno Navarra himself.

Stagno Navarra is a wellknown figure on the television screen, having once a staple figure on Nationalist Party media house NET TV before then taking on a role within the Labour party’s television station One TV in 2016, presenting the daily current affairs show Pjazza in the early evening slot.

Besides this however, Stagno Navarra is known to have held a role within Malta Enterprise while also having other consultancy roles with Transport Malta and the Office of the Prime Minister.

Asked by this newsroom whether he would be relinquishing his roles with Malta Enterprise, Transport Malta, and the Office of the Prime Minister, Stagno Navarra said that he had already resigned from Malta Enterprise and would be relinquishing the consultancy roles that he holds with Transport Malta and the Office of the Prime Minister.

Asked whether he would continue in his work with One Television, with whom he presents that early evening current affairs show Pjazza, Stagno Navarra said that this is “not

under discussion so far,” later clarifying that his employment with Air Malta has nothing to do with the TV program.

It had been claimed in other sectors of the media that Stagno Navarra would be paid a salary of some €90,000 per year for his role with the airline.

When asked by this newsroom what Stagno Navarra’s pay packet would be, Air Malta replied that, “his pay package is commensurate with Air Malta grades”.

Both the airline and Stagno Navarra had denied this when news of Stagno Navarra’s potential employment with the national airline had first emerged last May. Back then, the airline had said that the selection process for who was to take on the role was still ongoing.
