Next year’s schemes for local and regional councils announced
The global funds allocated for next year’s schemes for local and regional councils amount to more than €5 million, a government statement reads.
The budget launched a few weeks ago announced several new schemes which will improve the standard of living of residents starting from next year, the statement reads.
“The main aim of these schemes is to create more inclusion and innovation. There are schemes aimed directly at increasing inclusiveness, and others aimed at increasing accessibility and mobility so as to ensure that the public structures in our localities are accessible to everyone. There are also schemes that will continue to strengthen our communities and which are in favour of the environment, waste reduction and animal welfare, as well as others that will increase the use of technology in our localities.”
Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government and Communities Silvio Parnis said that “the work and importance of the local government is recognised by everyone.”
He continued, “Besides the fact that local and regional councils are receiving financial increases, they are also being given the esteem they deserve.”
Parliamentary Secretary Parnis added that, ultimately, “the local government is obliged to deliver the central government’s strategy and agenda at a local level, and these schemes will continue to help.”
He concluded by saying that the main purpose of the local government was to serve the residents, “and this is why our commitment should be to ensure that they are given a service of excellence.”
