PD reiterates call for government to accept US offer to help in investigation
Partit Demokratiku yesterday said it was is following the latest developments in the case of Daphne Caruana Galizia’s assassination “very closely”, and reiterated its call for the government to accept the US embassy’s offer to help.
“We note that a presidential pardon has been offered to a ‘middleman’ who is presumed by the police to have acted as a go-between for the mastermind of the assassination – described in press reports as a ‘major businessman’ – and the executors.
“This is a critical moment in the fight against the mafia that has decided to attack the very foundation of our democracy – the free press. We must ensure that no games are played. It is therefore essential for expert external support to be involved in all facets of the investigation and to support the police who continue doing a very important job. It remains imperative that the government accepts the US embassy’s offer for help in the ongoing investigations, as PD has been campaigning for.”
PD observed that presidential pardons have a price: 100 per cent truth.
“We need continued expert support to ensure that the middleman’s confession ultimately leads to the dismantling of the mafia that ordered the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia and the eradication of all its activities.
“We want the Republic to defeat the mafia for good. We continue supporting all those seeking truth, justice and change, regardless of their affiliations.”
