MFA President meets UEFA head Ceferin in Nyon

-

Bjorn Vassallo, the President of the Malta Football Association, has met UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin at the European football body’s headquarters in Nyon.

Tuesday’s meeting followed an invitation by Ceferin who congratulated Vassallo on his election as Malta FA President last July. Several topics of mutual interest were discussed with Vassallo highlighting the Malta FA’s priorities and the key projects, particularly the overhaul of the technical sector, being undertaken by the Association.

During his meeting with the UEFA President, Vassallo also spoke about the on-going process of drawing up a strategic document based on the programme that was ratified by the Association’s Executive Committee following his election last year. This important exercise, which is supported by UEFA as part of its GROW programme, entails internal and external consultations on the main objectives and proposals with a view to having a clear and concise written strategy by June 2020.

Ceferin and Vassallo also exchanged views on the initiative being taken by the small European National Associations to create a forum where technical matters of common interest can be discussed with UEFA. The Malta FA is one of the main promoters of this initiative.

OTHER MEETINGS

During Tuesday’s visit to UEFA, Vassallo and Dr Angelo Chetcuti, the Malta FA General Secretary, held other meetings focusing on thematic priorities in the areas of club licensing and business development. Bilateral meetings with UEFA General Secretary Theodore Theodoridis and Giorgio Marchetti, the UEFA Deputy General Secretary and Director of Competitions, were also held.
