-

Prime Minister Robert Abela has promised that there will be ‘complete transparency’ in all government contracts, and that these contracts will be done “with integrity and honesty.” The Prime Minister spoke during a meeting with UĦM- Voice of the Workers.

On the ongoing investigations in the Police Force, the Prime Minister said that the fact that the Force is investigating itself means that the institutions are working, and that the hard decisions are continuing to be taken.

Prime Minister Abela said that he looks forward to the appointment of a new Police Commissioner through the new system, and said that there will be a reform in the Force.

He also spoke about the concept of equal pay for equal jobs of equal value, and said that while these were addressed in the public sector, more needs to be done, and this also needs to be tackled in the private sector. He said that there must always be peace in the industry as through dialogue better work is always guaranteed.

The Prime Minister also stressed on the importance of trade unions, and said that his government wants to give all the necessary tools for unions to be able to work well.

Turning to the judiciary, he said that the country is benefiting from a good judiciary while under this government since a new system of appointments had been introduced. He said it will continue to be strengthened. The Prime Minister said that he always respected the Court’s decisions and mentioned that the number of cases taking long to conclude needs to be addressed.

On his part, CEO of UHM Josef Vella spoke about equal pay for a job of equal value, the judiciary, government contracts, among other things.
