Sampdoria’s Ramirez says clubs have hidden their coronaviru­s cases

Attacking midfielder Gaston Ramirez has praised Sampdoria for their “transparen­cy” and pointed a finger at the clubs who, according to him, have been “hiding” their cases of coronaviru­s. “It’s a question of ethics,” he added.

On Wednesday, Sampdoria came out of self-isolation, but with Italy currently in a state of lockdown, only essential trips are still permitted.

Those who tested positive at Sampdoria were Manolo Gabbiadini, Albin Ekdal, Antonino La Gumina, Morten Thorsby, Fabio Depaoli, Bartosz Bereszynsk­i and Edgar Barreto.

The squad had been in quarantine after several of their players had been diagnosed with the virus with a list of stars to undergo new tests after the initial isolation period.

Ramirez has claimed other teams “have been hiding” positive cases of coronaviru­s and expressed his thoughts on the matter.

Speaking about his claim that clubs had hidden their cases, he told Genova newspaper Il Secolo XIX : “It’s hard. These days are tough, and the news is written, to hear about all those dead... I feel a deep sadness for them, for their loved ones”.

“My family and I are well, thanks to heaven, aware that we must make our contributi­on, staying at home.

“We faced our emergency with serenity, often hearing from our teammates who are infected, and they have reassured us about their conditions,” he added. “Sampdoria has not kept anything hidden, many other teams have, and I don’t understand it.

“Revealing that you have the virus is not a stain on the criminal record, it’s a question of health, ethics. If you want to win the war, you have to isolate the infected.
