The Seed: Fourth production being filmed in Malta in September

-

The Seed is the fourth film production to be filmed in Malta this September, the government said in a statement.

The production is currently being shot in two locations in Malta: Għargħur and Fomm irRiħ.

“This production has a budget of around €2 million, with approximately half being spent in Malta. It is being produced by UK company Ingenious Group with local collaboration. The theme of this production is horror/sci-fiction,” the statement added.

Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection Julia Farrugia Portelli and Film Commissioner Johann Grech visited one of the sites in the past few days, where they met with the producers and some of the actors.

“I am pleased that Malta is once again attracting another international level production, one that will inject around a million euros into our country’s economy. Films belonging to such a genre are not one usually filmed in Malta, but we are managing to attract more productions to our country despite the challenges the international film industry has been facing lately. Such productions will further boost Malta’s reputation and our competitiveness in the sector, following successful cash rebates and incentives offered,” stated Minister Farrugia Portelli.

One of the producers, Matt Hookings, said that the filming of this production is a result of his and his team’s experience last year whilst shooting the film ‘The Curious Life of the Grand Duke of Corsica’, a production which will be released shortly. “After the really good experience we had it made sense to return,” stated Matt Hookings.

Film Commissioner Johann Grech said that ‘The Seed’ is the fourth production being filmed in Malta in September. This production involves around 80 people, with more than half of them being Maltese. “I am pleased to note that we have continued to attract productions from different countries, and we continued to strengthen this industry. We are very optimistic about continuing to attract many more productions to Malta,” said Grech.
