Malta faces Liechtenst­ein at Ta’ Qali in Michael Mifsud’s last match for Malta

This evening will see the end of Michael Mifsud’s brilliant carreer with the national red jersey, as Malta faces Liechtenst­ein in a friendly internatio­nal at Ta’ Qali.

Malta will be trying to extend its recent positive stretch with another good result, ahead of the two important home fixtures in the UEFA Nations League against Andorra on Saturday and against the Faroe Islands the following Wednesday.

Butt all the focus will be onn Michael Mifsud’s last match for the national team after a brilliant carreer having played a total of 142 games and scored 41 goals.

Michael Mifsud made his debut for Malta on 10 February 2020 against Albani in a scoreless draw at Ta’ Qali.

Malta was under the guidance of coach Josip Ilic. His first goal for Malta in his fourth appearance against Iceland in a 1-4 defeat.

Michael Mifsud reached the 100 caps in October 2013 in another 1-4 defeat, this time against the Czech Republic.

For Malta this will be the fifth match against Liechtenst­ein, and malta is still undefeated with three wins and a draw.

The 7-1 victory over Liechtenst­ein in March 2003 is a special match not only for the national team but also for Michael Mifsud who has scored five goals in that match.

Speaking in yesterday’s virtual press conference Michael Mifsud said that the most important thing is that Malta continues on the recent good form.

Mifsud said that Malta has a bright future with several promising young players.

Mifsud recalled his away winner against Armenia in a Wolrd Cup qualifier in 2013 as one of the most significan­t moments in his career.

Mifsud also played for several local and foreign clubs, even playing for Kaiserslau­tern in the Bundesliga.

This evening’s match kicks off at 6pm.
