Juventus w Win with Chiesa strike

Ronaldo gives Man Utd dramatic win More misery for Barcelona Another massive win for Bayern

-

Italy forwards Federico Chiesa and Federico Bernardeschi ran consistently through the heart of Chelsea's defense, Romelu Lukaku was held in check, and Juventus convincingly beat the injury-depleted trophy defender 1-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Ten seconds into the second half, Chiesa sprinted onto a through ball from Bernardeschi and beat defender Antonio Rudiger to score from a difficult angle.

Bernardeschi nearly made it 2-0 when he tripped just as he was about to redirect a cross from Juan Cuadrado.

It wasn't until the 75th minute that a decent cross found its way to Lukaku, who Chelsea bought for a club record $135 million in August. But the Belgium striker's ensuing header went well wide.

Lukaku had a close chance in the 83rd but again missed the target.

Ronaldo scores late winner for United in CL

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a winner in the fifth minute of stoppage time as Manchester United came from behind to beat Villarreal 2-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Making his record 178th appearance in the competition, Ronaldo latched onto a loose ball in the area and slotted a finish under Villarreal goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli before running to the fans and removing his jersey to reveal his muscular physique.

It was Ronaldo's fifth goal in five games since joining from Juventus for a second spell at Old Trafford and definitely his most important.

Villarreal looked like handing United a second straight loss in Group F — after the Premier League team's shocking 2-1 defeat at Swiss outsider Young Boys two weeks ago — by going in front in the 53rd through Paco Alcacer, who poked in a finish through the legs of United goalkeeper David De Gea following a cross by Arnaut Danjuma off the outside of his right boot.

Barçelona loses again in CL with 3-0 defeat to Benfica

Benfica routed struggling Barcelona 3-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday, ending a 60-year winless streak against the Catalan club and handing Barcelona a second consecutive loss to start its European campaign.

Darwin Nuñez scored twice — including three minutes into the match — and Rafa Silva added another goal at the Stadium of Light to give Benfica its second victory in eight matches against the Spanish powerhouse, which had opened with a demoralizing 3-0 home loss against Bayern Munich.

It was Barcelona's fifth straight Champions League match with

out a win, with the Catalan club having conceded 14 goals during that run. It didn't have a single shot on target from eight attempts on Wednesday.

Lewandowski scores 2 as Bayern hammers Dynamo Kyiv 5-0

A 5-0 victory in the Champions

League with two goals from Robert Lewandowski. Just another evening's work for Bayern Munich.

The win Wednesday over Dynamo Kyiv marked the ninth game in succession that Bayern scored three or more goals across all competitions. Lewandowski has been crucial to the impressive attacking output under new coach Julian Nagelsmann, with 13 goals in nine games.

Dynamo arrived in Munich with little apparent ambition other than damage limitation, but soon the Ukrainian team gifted Bayern the opening goal. Captain Serhiy Sydorchuk handballed in a challenge with Leon Goretzka, and Lewandowski stepped up to convert the 12th-minute penalty with a gentle shot past goalkeeper Heorhiy Bushchan.

Lewandowski followed up with Bayern's second in the 27th when a gap opened up in the Dynamo defense and the Poland striker latched onto Thomas Müller's pass to apply a simple finish for his 60th Champions League goal for Bayern. He could have made it a hat trick, but missed the target with a header soon after.

Serge Gnabry made it 3-0 in the 68th with a powerful shot off the underside of the crossbar and Leroy Sané increased the lead to 4-0 when he shaped to hit a cross from the left but instead swung the ball in past Bushchan at the near post. The fifth was a towering header from Lewandowski's substitute, Eric Maxim Choupo

Moting.

Zenit eases to 4-0 win over Malmo in Champions League

Zenit St. Petersburg cruised to a 4-0 win over 10-man Malmo in the Champions League on Wednesday to stay in contention to advance from a group also containing Juventus and Chelsea.

Three Brazilians combined to give Zenit the lead in the ninth minute as Malcom played in Douglas Santos on the left and he hit a low cross for Claudinho to knock past goalkeeper Johan Dahlin.

The Swedish champion had chances to level when captain Anders Christiansen missed with a header and later a mistimed scoop over the bar. Shortly after the break, the game was all but over with Zenit's second goal and a red card for Malmo.

First, Daler Kuzyaev headed in for Zenit off a cross from defender Yaroslav Rakitskiy in the 49th. Four minutes later, Malmo defender Anel Ahmedhodzic was red-carded after the referee decided, with help from a video review, that his handball in a challenge on Kuzyaev had denied an obvious goalscoring opportunity.

Wide midfielder Alexei Sutormin added a third in the 80th with a low shot from long range. Wendel extended the lead to 4-0 with a goal on the rebound in stoppage time after Dahlin parried a shot from substitute Sardar Azmoun.

Pessina scores CL winner for Atalanta

Atalanta midfielder Matteo Pessina does not score often. When he does, though, the goals usually come in big matches.

Like his brace in a 3-1 win over Napoli in the second leg of the Italian Cup semifinals in February.

Like his goals against Wales and Austria — both winners — during Italy's run to the European Championship title.

Pessina had gone scoreless since his 105th-minute goal against Austria at Wembley Stadium three months ago until he used one touch to redirect a cross from Duván Zapata in the second half of Atalanta's 1-0 win over Young Boys in the Champions League on Wednesday.

It was Pessina's first goal in his 14th European club match and it put Atalanta in control of Group F ahead of Manchester United's game against Villarreal later.
