President inaugurates University of Malta international conference
President of Malta George Vella inaugurated the ‘MUŻE.X - Shaping Museum Futures’ conference on Monday evening.
This is a three-day conference gathering museum managers and curators, researchers, students and industry stakeholders from all over the world to discuss and debate possible museum futures.
The President said that this conference is a very good opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of the University of Malta in spearheading innovative thinking and creating the right environment to do so, in order to become an international player in this field.
“As museums navigate uncertain times, the conversation might be informed by the need for museums to morph into genuinely democratic, inclusive and polyphonic spaces for critical conversations about the past and future,” he said.
President Vella said that another possible discussion could be whether museums can ever be fully integrated within communities, acting as co-catalysts for radical changes informing and contributing to achieving better societies.
Ways and means how museums can promote social inclusion and contribute to a greater awareness of the natural environment “and be committed to supporting meaningful and significant action in response to climate change” is another question which the President outlined as significantly valid for discussion.
The President augured that this conference contributes to international conversations on the future of museums in meaningful ways that can significantly contribute to a better world.
