Edin Džeko scored one goal and set up another as Inter Milan finally kick-started its Champions League campaign with a 3-1 win over previously unbeaten Sheriff on Tuesday.

Džeko scored the opener and then set up Arturo Vidal for Inter's second, shortly after Sébastien Thill had equalized for Sheriff. Stefan de Vrij all but sealed Inter's first win of this season's Champions League in the 67th minute.

Messi scores 2 goals to rescue PSG in 3-2 win over Leipzig

Lionel Messi scored twice in quick succession, including an exquisite Panenka-style penalty, to rescue Paris Saint-Germain as it rallied to beat Leipzig 3-2 in the Champions League after being dominated for long spells on Tuesday.

Messi equalized in the 67th minute, poking home from close range after goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi tipped his first shot onto the post. He then sent Gulacsi diving to the left before dinking the ball softly down the middle for his third goal since joining PSG from Barcelona.

They have all come in the Champions League, with Kylian Mbappe setting up the first two and winning the penalty for Messi's winner against Leipzig in the 74th minute.

Mbappe then took a penalty in the fourth minute of stoppage time, awarded following a video review for a foul on right back Achraf Hakimi, but he blazed it well over.

Mbappe opened the scoring with a ninth-minute goal.

But after that, the visitors took control by pressing high up the field and forcing panicky PSG into numerous errors.

Striker Andre Silva equalized in the 28th and midfielder Nordi Mukiele volleyed in powerfully in the 57th, with left back Angelino setting up both with his deft left foot.

Unbeaten in Serie A, AC Milan can't win in Champions League

Unbeaten in Serie A, AC Milan can't find a way to win in the Champions League.

Making their first group-phase appearance in eight years, the Rossoneri were beaten 1-0 at Porto in Group B on Tuesday for their third straight defeat in the competition.

It's the first time that Milan has lost the first three matches in the group stage of the Champions League.

Luis Díaz scored from the edge of the 18-yard box in the 65th minute after hitting the post in the first half.

Not even Zlatan Ibrahimović, who came on in the second half, could turn things around for Milan in the

same stadium where he scored a spectacular backheel goal for Sweden at the 2004 European Championship.

Dominant Ajax beats Dortmund 4-0

Ajax surged past Borussia Dortmund 4-0 on Tuesday to take a big step toward advancing to the Champions League knockout stage for the first time since the Dutch club reached the semifinals three seasons ago.

A third win from three games gives Ajax a three-point lead in Group C ahead of Dortmund, whose often-unreliable defense couldn't cope with Ajax's smart movement off the ball.

After a kickoff delayed slightly by smoke from fans' pyrotechnics, Ajax needed just 11 minutes to take the lead. The buildup of pressure led to a free kick out wide which Dusan Tadic curled toward goal. It took a deflection off Marco Reus' head along the way and went down as an own goal.

Daley Blind made it 2-0 with his first goal in any competition for almost a year, shooting in off the foot of the post after the ball fell to him on the edge of the penalty area following Dortmund players' bungled attempts to clear.

With Dortmund still struggling to track Ajax players' movement in attack, the hosts scored a third in the 57th when Brazilian winger Antony cut in from the right flank past the slow-to-react Emre Can and curled the ball inside the far post.

The fourth goal came soon after when Sebastien Haller used his height and strength to hold off Can and Mats Hummels and head in a floated cross.

Mohamed Salah scored twice as Liverpool took advantage of Antoine Griezmann's red card to beat Atlético Madrid 3-2 in a Champions League thriller on Tuesday.

Griezmann had already scored twice to help Atlético recover from a poor start, but then he was sent off with a straight red card early in the second half for hitting Roberto Firmino's head with his foot while trying to reach for the ball.

Liverpool capitalized on the advantage with Salah scoring the winner from a penalty kick in the 78th minute.

Atlético had a penalty a few minutes after Liverpool's third goal but it was reversed after video review.

Naby Keita also scored for Liverpool in the first half as Liverpool took a 2-0 lead by the 13th at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

Coates heads 2 goals as Sporting Lisbon beats Besiktas 4-1

Sebastian Coates waited years to score his first Champions League goal but only 12 minutes for the next one, a near-exact copy.

The Sporting Lisbon captain scored two headers in almost identical circumstances and won a penalty for good measure, as he led his team to a 4-1 win against Besiktas in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Uruguayan defender Coates was left unmarked in front of goal to head in when Pedro Goncalves' corner was flicked on by Goncalo Inacio at the near post in the 15th minute. Canadian forward Cyle Larin equalized for Besiktas nine minutes later with a towering header from another corner.

Sporting restored the lead in the 27th with Coates' second header, from the same position, again after a corner was flicked on. Coates was playing his 13th Champions League game since his debut in 2016 and the former Liverpool player had never scored in Europe's top-tier club competition before.

Manchester City routs Club Brugge 5-1

Manchester City put on a dominant display of slick passing and movement to rout Club Brugge 5-1 on Tuesday in the Champions League.

City found the net in the 13th but Rodri's goal from close range was canceled for an offside position and Foden dragged his shot wide into the side-netting in the next minute.

City doubled its lead in the 43rd minute after Stanley Nsoki fouled Mahrez with a clumsy tackle inside the box. The Algeria international converted from the spot into the bottom left corner, sending Mignolet the wrong way.

City continued its high pressing game after the interval, finding space at ease down the flanks. Walker made it 3-0 in the 53rd minute from Kevin De Bruyne's clever pass between two defenders.

Guardiola's coaching paid off in the 67th minute as substitutes Raheem Sterling and Palmer combined well to create City's fourth goal. Sterling set up the 19-year-old on the edge of the box and Palmer finished off the move with a brilliant curled kick into the net.

Hans Vanaken scored a consolation goal to salvage pride for the hosts in the 82nd minute and Mahrez capped City's win from close range.
