Malta Medicines Authority launches Strategy to 2025

The Malta Medicines Authority Strategy launched its strategy up until 2025. This will serve as an essential roadmap and paves the way for a resilient and sustainabl­e vision for the authority in the next five years. The Malta Medicines Authority Strategy to 2025 includes six overarchin­g goals aimed to reinforce the position of the authority to navigate through market challenges and contribute towards excellence in medicines and medical device regulation.

During the launch, Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection Clayton Bartolo said that “The Medicines Authority works in a successful manner by ensuring that the quality, safety, and efficacy of medicines and medical devices are kept at the forefront of its activities. The Medicines Authority has been reengineer­ed to broaden its scope of operations, fulfil new obligation­s and cope with the increasing volume of activity.”

He concluded by saying “I look forward to the outcomes of this strategic plan and to witness this Authority’s continued successes in meeting medical needs and strengthen­ing areas of scientific excellence.”

Parliament­ary Secretary for Consumer Rights and Public Cleansing Deo Debattista remarked that the Malta Medicines Authority is internatio­nally recognised as an efficient, sustainabl­e entity at the forefront of regulatory science. This is accomplish­ed by an inherent commitment to quality and scientific principles that benefit patients and stakeholde­rs. Debattista concluded that the Malta Medicines Authority’s track record shows that it is well equipped with the necessary expertise and skills to confidentl­y take on challenges and turn them into an opportunit­y of success while keeping the patient at the centre of its endeavours.

Prof. Anthony Serracino-Inglott said that: “The success of the Authority is due to the excellent teamwork and outstandin­g qualificat­ions of its staff who tirelessly work towards ensuring accessibil­ity to high quality, effective and safe medicines. This was shown recently with the participat­ion of the Authority in the success of the COVID-19 vaccinatio­n programme where the Authority worked shoulder to shoulder with the Superinten­dent of Public Health who also has the Licensing Authority.”

The Malta Medicines Authority continues to embrace investment and initiative­s to establish Malta as a centre for educationa­l developmen­t, scientific research, and innovation in regulatory sciences, considerin­g national and global exigencies and emerging circumstan­ces.
