San Ġiljan Saints champions

-

San Ġiljan Saints are the new MAFA First Division champions as they brushed off the stiff challenge of Senglea Gunners 3-1 and clinch their first ever trophy in this association.

The Saints had an exceptional season and bar some two unexpected defeats, they were always on top of the table.

Credit also to Senglea Gunners who gave a tough challenge for the title but in the end the Saints had the last laugh.

San Ġiljan surged ahead on 15 minutes as Christian Cassar put the ball into his own net to score an own goal.

The Cottonera side levelled the matters two minutes later courtesy of Noel Tabone who slotted home to beat Stian Nielsen.

Michael Hennessy's boys weren't impressed by this goal and in no time they scored their second goal through Robert Veskimae after a good cross by Ethan Goodman.

After the interval, as expected Senglea were on the offensive with Stian Nielsen being busy and performing a string of important saves.

Senglea were unlucky not to get the equalizer on 60 minutes as Armando Hussein's header hit the post.

San Ġiljan Saints rubberstamped their victory on injury time as after a quick counter attack it was Ethan Goodman whose grounder beat Ludvic Fardell for the third and final goal.

At the end of the contest, San Ġiljan players and supporters were in celebration mode after clinching their first ever trophy in this association.
