Number of persons registering for work drops to below 1,000 in October, NSO says
In October 2022, the number of persons registering for work stood at 984, decreasing by 270 when compared to the corresponding month in 2021, the NSO said on Monday.
Data provided by Jobsplus for October 2022 indicate a year-onyear decrease of 231 persons registering under Part I, and an additional drop of 39 persons registering under Part II of the unemployment register. Registered unemployment levels had decreased across all age groups.
Those registering under Part I are either new job seekers who have left school, re-entrants into the labour market or individuals who have been made redundant by their former employers. Those registering under Part II are either workers who have been dismissed from work as due to disciplinary actions, left work out of their own free will, refused work or training opportunities or were struck off the register after an inspection by Law Enforcement personnel.
Males accounted for 69.3% of total registrants, while females accounted for the remaining 30.7%. Persons who had been registering for work for less than 21 weeks, as well as those who had been registering between 21 and 52 weeks, had decreased when compared to the same month in 2021.
A higher drop was recorded amongst those persons who were registering for work for more than one year. In October 2022, the number of persons with a disability who were registering for work had decreased by 48 when compared to the previous year, thus reaching 219 persons.
Males accounted for 77.2% of total registrants with a disability. The largest share of males and females on the unemployment register sought occupations as Clerical support workers, with 20.8% and 42.1% respectively.
