More than 1,800 vacant places for students in Church schools
The Admission Regulations for Church Schools in Malta for the scholastic year 2023-2024 have been published on the website of the Archdiocese of Malta: www.church.mt.
The Admission Regulations for Church Schools in Gozo for the scholastic year 2023-2024 will be online by 25 November 2022. There will be a total of 1,852 vacant places for students (1,601 students in Malta and 251 students in Gozo). All applications will be accepted online. Applications for ‘Criteria 1’ for Malta are to be submitted between the 24th November and 1st December 2022, while those for Gozo will be submitted between 9 December and 15 December 2022. Applications for ‘Other Applicants’ can be submitted between the 1 and 14 February 2023. The list of required documents, application dates and other information is provided in the regulations which will be available online.
The admission process for Church schools in Malta determines admission at first year and second year kindergarten, first year primary and first year secondary.
This year, St Monica School in Gżira will also be accepting students in Year 4. Applications under ‘Criteria 1’ in Malta include children who are in Church homes, children of Church school employees and of the Secretariat for Catholic Education, siblings of students at the same school, transfers from other schools of the same religious congregation, and students attending Church schools without continuity.
A number of places will also be allocated to children considered to be serious cases, and for which specific regulations apply. Serious cases include students who have or will require the support of an LSE, social cases and children who are seeking asylum.
Serious cases follow a parallel process to the other applications.
The admission process for Church schools in Gozo determines admission at first year kindergarten and first year secondary respectively.
Applications under ‘Criteria 1’ for schools in Gozo include students who are in Year 6 in Church Schools in Gozo, children of employees in Church schools, siblings of students at the same school, social cases, children who are seeking asylum, applicants from Għasri, as well as applicants for St Francis Nadur Kindergarten. Applicants who are statemented and fall under the above criteria, apply according to the Admissions Regulations for Gozo.
Church schools admission in 2022
For the current scholastic year (2022-2023), the Secretariat for Catholic Education received 3,719 applications for 1,725 places available in different levels and schools in Malta. Once again, the demand for Church schools in Malta saw more than twice as many applications as places available. The Secretariat also received 324 applications for 248 vacant places in Church schools in Gozo. Ballots and school registrations were further carried out online.
