Marsa St Michael still on top with win over Mqabba Albions

Marsa St Michael kept their top status in the Mochika MAFA First Division table after seeing off a mighty Mqabba Albions side 3‐2.

It wasn't an easy match for Mal‐ colm Tirchett troops as their op‐ ponents gave their all and confirmed their good progress of late.

Mqabba surged ahead through Shaun Abela after only one minute with Marsa restoring parity from a penalty scored by Samuel Dickson and scoring their second goal courtesy of Andy Portelli.

In the second half, Portelli scored his second personal goal for Marsa with Mqabba who kept pushing till the end and scored another goal through Ethan Gor‐ don.

In the match of the weekend, Valletta St Pauls and San Ġwann Pro Evolution Academy shared the spoils in an exciting 1‐1 scoreline.

This was an awaited encounter between two teams who will cer‐ tainly be title contenders.

San Ġwann surged ahead on 38 minutes from Louis Swann Va‐ chet with Valletta St Pauls scor‐ ing their goal from a Rogger Patino Villada's penalty.

Senglea Gunners are second in the table, one point behind lead‐ ers Marsa after seeing off cham‐ pions San Ġiljan Saints 3‐1. The latter are finding it hard to im‐ pose their style of play this sea‐ son as they conceded their third defeat in four matches.

Lamin Jaiteh was inspiratio­nal for Senglea as he notched a hat‐ trick with Conor Murphy scoring the temporary draw for San Ġiljan.

A goal scored by Jhonathan Hi‐ nojza Mosqueea was enough for Tal‐Qroqq Versity Kamelasa to beat Żebbuġ Youngsters in the battle of the basement.

This was Żebbuġ's fourth de‐ feat on the trot as they are still last in the table with no points. On their part, the Tal‐Qroqq out‐ fit leapfrogge­d San Ġiljan Saints and are now on the four point mark.

In the MAFA Third Division, no goal was scored in the score matches played.

Gżira United and Buġibba Club de Swat cancelled each other in a goalless draw. Despite this score, the Maroons are still second in the table with six points two points less than leaders Attard Edex Kings.

Even the match between Għaxaq Wolves and Fgura Spar‐ tans didn't produce any goals. Għaxaq tried hard to impose their style of play with the Fgura rearguard in fine form and also trying to go on the counter. De‐ spite all this, no goals were scored.

Għaxaq are now sharing the second position with Gżira United SC.
