Fostering Olympic values amongst youth through the olympic education experience

-

The 'Olympic Education Experi‐ ence' continues to be an im‐ mensely popular programme among Year 5 students from State Colleges, Independent, and Church Schools. Last year, all in‐ terested applicants were ac‐ cepted, and this year, the second edition anticipates hosting over 1000 students, doubling the at‐ tendance of the previous edition.

This workshop, which is hosted by the Maltese Olympic Committee’s Olympic Academy and the Department of Educa‐ tion, is divided into two parts.

The first part focuses on pro‐ moting the Olympic Values: Faster, Higher, Stronger‐To‐ gether, Fair‐play, and Friendship. The second part is a dynamic program held at the Maltese Olympic Committee Headquar‐ ters, featuring activities such as a Scavenger‐Hunt, a presentation on the Legacy & History of the Olympic Committee, and a live interview with a Maltese Olympian.

Weekly, between October and

May, the Maltese Olympic Com‐ mittee Headquarters welcome around 50‐75 students. Led by Mr. EdmundMifsud and Mr. Daniel Tanti Farrugia from the Maltese Olympic Academy, stu‐ dents engage in a 3‐hour pro‐ gramme.

Recognizing the growing sig‐ nificance of this experience, the Maltese Olympic Committee, the Education Department, and the Institute of Physical Education and Sport at the University of Malta have collaborated to offer second‐year students a hands‐on teaching/learning opportunity with the young participants.

Participants in the Experience receive personalised accredita‐ tion cards and workbooks con‐ taining workshop information. Additionally, they receive mer‐ chandise related to the program as a memento of their experi‐ ence.
