Gudja to get residents priority parking from June

Residents in Gudja will be able to enjoy priority for parking in certain areas of the locality overnight as the government clamps down on people leaving their cars there for several days as they travel abroad.

The scheme, announced on Wednesday evening by the Transport Ministry, will begin on 1 June in several streets in Gudja which are close to the Malta International Airport.

For a number of years, residents living in this area have faced problems as parking in these streets was being taken by people who leave their cars parked there for several days while they are abroad.

The new rules will mean that as from 1 June, parking in these streets will be reserved exclusively for residents between 8pm and 7am, and that unauthorised vehicles parked in these spots will be towed so that the spaces that they have taken up will be freed.

The presence of LESA and Transport Malta officials will also increase.

Transport Minister Chris Bonett said that these measures are aimed at improving the quality of life of Gudja residents and ensure that parking spaces are used in the most just and efficient manner.

Gudja mayor Marija Sara Vella Gafa’ – also a Labour MEP candidate – showed her appreciation for the government’s support and for its listening to the council’s request for this initiative to take place.

The Gudja local council will be responsible for the implementation of the logistics of this system, and therefore residents living in the streets in question will be contacted by the local council itself in the coming days.
