Internatio­nal Committee of Mediterran­ean Games Executive host first meeting for 2024 in Rabat, Morocco

Maltese Olympic Committee President Julian Pace Bonello, in his capacity as Executive Board Member of the Internatio­nal Com‐ mittee of Mediterran­ean Games Executive (ExCo) was present for the official opening of the Execu‐ tive Committee which took place recently in Rabat, Morocco.

All Presidents of the ICMG Com‐ missions were also invited to present their Reports and take part in part of the ExCo Meeting. Amongst these, was Dr Lucienne Attard, who is the current Presi‐ dent of the ICMG Medical and Sci‐ entific Commission.

Mediterran­ean Games

Amongst the topics discussed in the ExCo was the progress achieved in the road leading up to the forthcomin­g Mediterrea­nan Games which will take place in Taranto in 2026. A progress re‐ port on preparatio­ns for the Games was given and the sports programme was announced. The Co‐Ordination Commission will be visiting Taranto prior to the start of the Olympic Games.

The cooperatio­n between the ICMG and ITA in relation to anti‐ doping matters will continue for the next Mediterran­ean Games Taranto 2026 and the Mediter‐ ranean Beach Games Portimão & Lagoa 2027. ICMG and EUROVI‐ SION will continue their partner‐ ship until the Mediterran­ean Games Pristina 2030.

It was announced that the ICMG Conference on the future of the Mediterran­ean Games, according to the decision of the Executive

Committee, will be organized in 2025 in Prishtina, following the invitation of the National Olympic Committee of Kosovo.

Ambassador­s’ Programme

The meeting took place in the presence of the Director of the Na‐ tional Education and Sports Min‐ istry, Abderrazak El Akari, who made a reference to the Olympic truce through the sports move‐ ment that advocates peace , fair play, and promotes sports culture. The ExCo also approved the pro‐ posal of the Solidarity, Culture and Education Commission for the programme of the Mediterran­ean Young Ambassador­s.

The publicatio­n of a book on the Mediterran­ean Games has been announced by the Communica‐ tion and Marketing Commission in view of the ICMG 75th anniver‐ sary. It will be released in English and French in 2026 before the Taranto Games.

The new ICMG branding for the Athletes’ Committee was also ap‐ proved

It was decided that the candida‐ ture process for organizing the Mediterran­ean Beach Games 2031 will be opened and the deci‐ sion will be taken at the General Assembly which will be held in 2025, according to the ICMG Statutes.
