PL to field 381 candidates for local council elections

-

There are a total of 381 candidates for the upcoming local council elections, who Prime Minister Robert Abela described as being the ‘best team’ to continue building on what the Labour Party has already done.

The Prime Minister was speaking on Saturday during a 10minute event at the newly-inaugurated concert area in Ta’ Qali where the PL candidates were presented.

He said that these people are a mix of old and new faces, coming from all walks of life, with some of them already having a lot of experience working within the local council they are contesting in.

Abela said that local councils are there to implement the government’s proposals for the different communities.

The primary aim is to ensure that residents in the area have access to an open space no more than 10 minutes away from their home, Abela said. “This includes a focus on improving cleanliness in the locality, alongside increased education on the matter and promoting more sustainable development practices.”

“Additionally, there is a need for more bus routes and infrastructure to support cycling. Investments in digital solutions, such as smart parking, are essential, as well as enhancing security in the local area through the revival of police stations. Improving the quality of life for the elderly within the community is also a priority,” he said.
