Vodafone employees run for charity
A group of Vodafone employees joined the 3,000 participants who took part in the Landrover Malta Marathon. This marathon generated funds for charity. With the support and cheer of their family and collegues, six employees took part in the marathon with five employees running the half marathon and one employee doing the walkathon. The employees ran the marathon for various charities.
“Many of our employees run for fun and others run because they try to make it a point to include physical activity as part of their daily life,” said Martin Gregory, head of HR at Vodafone Malta. “Health and wellness are an important part of our corporate culture and we are glad to see our employees participating in these national sport events.”
For Senior Legal Counsel Rachel Desira, this was her first marathon. “This was the first time I participated in the half marathon. I have never jogged more than 5km before. The joy, pride and satisfaction at the finish line made it all worthwhile.” Ms Desira ran for Faces, a local charity currently running three projects in different parts of the world namely Nakuru in Kenya, Arequipa in Peru and Buza in Tanzania.
IP and Transport Networks engineer Joe Borg’s experience is one that gets better and better. “This was my fourth year running the half marathon and I can honestly say that the atmosphere and the level of organisation always makes it a truly worthwhile event to participate in. This year I ran for Inspire so my efforts hopefully also played a small part in making a positive contribution to this charity.”
For head of Commercial Operations Michael Coney it only started off as a friendly competition among friends. “This is the fourth time I am running the marathon. As for the day itself, it was truly great to see so many athletes of all ages taking part.”
Demand and Project Management executive Lisa Vassallo and Demand and Quality Assurance manager Edward Camilleri, both ran the half marathon and said that it was an exhilirating experience, an activity well organised and one that will definetly see both of them participate again next year. SME Sales executive Sylvana Calleja who did the walkathon said: “I enjoyed every minute of it and although it was not the first time for me it is of great satisfaction doing the walkathon for a good cause!”
