-

The Malta Tourism Authority’s UK office has recently been chosen as the winner of this year’s Travel Bulletin Star Awards, for the Best European Tourist Office, as voted for by travel agents in the UK.

Travel Bulletin is the UK's leading travel trade brand, delivering news, training, incentives and competitions for the travel agent.

Winning a Travel Bulletin Star Award is the ultimate accolade a travel organisation can hope to receive as the voting is conducted exclusively by the industry's true experts, high street multiple and independent agents and also homebased travel professionals.

The awards recently took place at the Landmark Hotel in London, with the Spanish Tourist Office voted as the runner-up. Other finalists were the Cyprus Tourism Organisation, the Greek National Tourism Organisation, the Italian State Tourist Board and the Portuguese National Tourist Office.

Peter Vella, the newly appointed director UK & Ireland had the honour of collecting the award on behalf of the MTA.

Commenting on this award, Paul Bugeja MTA CEO said: “It is indeed an immense honour for us to receive this prestigious award. This award is a demonstration of the continuous consistency, hard work and level of service shown by all our staff, which has been duly recognised by the people who are one of the pillars of our industry. Hence, I offer them all my personal thanks and congratulations.”

Mr Bugeja continued by saying that “the UK market is currently the largest incoming tourist market for the Maltese Islands and we will strive to continue promoting our islands as an all year round destination, with our efforts focusing on the winter and shoulder seasons by supporting major events throughout. Together with our stakeholders we will continue to work on increased seat capacity which is one of the fundamental ingredients of the success our tourism industry is going through. More so 12 airports across the UK will be offering flights to Malta this upcoming winter. This, together with an increased marketing presence, which is being planned by our new MTA team in London, will serve the Maltese islands well and lead to more positive results”.
