Logistics Forum to take stock of progress in landmark year

-

Homes around the island are filled with goods from TVs to pillows, and with perishables from apples to bread, but little can be understood about how these items get to the customers without recognising the role of logistics.

To help broaden the discussion around the ideas and solutions surrounding the ever growing sector of logistics, including its challenges and opportunities, the second edition of the Logistics Manager & Practitioner Forum will bring together industry leaders to explain the way forward for Malta.

Supported by HSBC Bank Malta, the expanded event this year presents a chance to review the tremendous changes the industry has witnessed in recent times, including the realisation of a Logistics Hub at Ħal Far and the creation of a dedicated business section at the Malta Chamber of Commerce.

“I call this the Logistics Year as it beckoned a new era of logistics sector. We had been waiting for this to happen for a long time. It is important now to think on the policy accomplishments and how one can maximise these achievements. The second Logistics Manager and Practitioners Forum provides just such a platform,” said co-organiser Alex Borg of SSM Group.

Two sessions at the Forum in particular are likely to attract a lot of industry’s attention, with Express Trailers CEO and Chairman Franco Azzopardi’s presentation on ‘The need to cope with demand in logistics and transport’ and Logistics Learning Alliance International UK’s Haydn Sandvig’s case study on ‘Best practice in the transport and logistics sector’.

An educational workshop on Tuesday 4th October, also by Haydn Sandvig, will precede the main Forum on Wednesday 5th October, and which will be addressed by, among a number of stakeholders, the Minister for Economy, Investment and Small Business Christian Cardona.

Other speakers invited to address the Forum are HSBC Malta’s Head of Commercial Banking Michel Cordina, Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry’s Logistics Business Section Chairman Robert C. Aquilina, the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Malta Chairperson Miriam Camilleri, Express Trailers CEO and Chairman Franco Azzopardi, EY Malta Country Partner Ronald Attard, Malta Marittima Senior Manager Franco Schembri, and Malta Freeport Corporation Chairman Dr Aaron Farrugia.

The TransLog platform is a conception of Support and Supply Management Group and marketing communications agency BPC International. More information and prior registeration can be made at 2123 1015 and comm@ssmgroup.org
