The Mrieħel Enterprise Zone Foundation holds its first annual general meeting

The first annual general meeting of the Imrieħel Enterprise Zone Foundation was held on 15 February. Louis Farrugia was nominated and seconded as Chair of the meeting.

In his opening address, Mr Farrugia emphasised the important work that the Foundation was doing to improve Mrieħel. He stressed d that the role of the Foundation was both to formulate a long-term vision for the area as well as to address a number of priority problems to alleviate setbacks for both employers and employees.

The chairman’s address was followed by a presentati­on from the CEO, Keith Fenech, who gave an overview of the work carried out by the Foundation since its inception. This work includes the adoption of internal policies and procedures for improved governance, a clean-up campaign wherein over 180 tonnes of waste was collected, a waste collection pilot project that is currently running, street lighting repairs as well as maintenanc­e of heavily degraded stretches of roads in the area.

He acknowledg­ed the considerab­le support of Projects Malta and the Ministry of Energy & Projects, as government’s representa­tives on the Board of Administra­tors, in the work carried out during the year by the Foundation.

Etienne Borg Cardona, treasurer of the Foundation, presented the audited accounts for the period 3 March up to 31 December 2016 as prepared by Deloitte. The audited accounts were approved unanimousl­y.

Furthermor­e, the AGM approved a recommenda­tion of the Board of Administra­tors to introduce three endowment bands for operators to become members. These bands are based on the number of employees as well as the footprint occupied.

Finally, the AGM also approved a number of changes to the deed of the Foundation aimed to facilitate the day-to-day operations of the Foundation.
