Road Safety Trip Campaign launched

-

Malta Public Transport, in collaboration with Fundación MAPFRE, launched a Road Safety Trip campaign last week, with the first sessions taking place at St. Benedict College in Żurrieq.

During the coming months, Malta Public Transport will be visiting different primary schools so as to deliver informative presentations on the importance of road safety. Malta Public Transport representatives will be delivering interactive presentations that are tailor-made for a young audience.

Primary school children will have the opportunity to travel on a bus, in order to learn about how to use public transport safely. All school children participating in the event will also have the opportunity to apply for a free Tallinja Child card, featuring the new design.

Students participating in this activity will also be receiving an illustrated book entitled “Julia, Penguin and the Spy” by Carlo Frabetti. This publication is an educational project by Fundación MAPFRE and is aimed at pre- venting child accidents and promoting road safety in the educational environment.

Paul Sammut, St. Benedict College’s headmaster, said: “This is a truly wonderful initiative by Malta Public Transport. It is a pleasure for our school to participate in such interesting initiatives that have an educational purpose and help to raise awareness on road safety”.

Daniel Grech, Malta Public Transport’s Commercial Director, added that the company is constantly seeking new ways and means to improve the safety levels on our roads whilst emphasing the importance of mutual respect between commuters and drivers.

Felipe Navarro, CEO of MAPFRE Middlesea, explained that this is another educational project sponsored by Fundacion MAPFRE, following the Street Smart School Campaign, a project which has been running for three years in most schools in Malta. “Now with the help and expertise of Malta Public Transport we aim at enhancing the children’s expe- rience on the road and hope to instil more awareness towards road safety” said Mr Navarro.

This initiative is open to all public, church and independent schools in Malta. Further infor- mation can be obtained by sending an email to safetycampaign@publictransport.com.mt.
