Aloysians and La Salle secure another title in Men’s and Women’s Handball

-

Aloysians ProMinent secured their 2nd Cup of the season in local men’s handball, after a draw with La Salle (26-26). Swieqi Phoenix Men's team finished on the runners up spot. Meanwhile, La Salle took home the women’s trophy after a tight battle for first place, clinching the title from Aloysians and Swieqi Gasan Mamo Phoenix only on goal average.

“We’ve had an interesting tournament this month. Handball continues to grow locally, year on year, bringing forth new challengers as well as new clubs, such as Birkirkara Handball in the women’s division. While we congratulate the winning teams, Malta Handball starts to gear up for the actual league for this season, for which we’ll have a winner in May next year,” said MHA Marketing Director, Orlando Bonnici.

Aloysians ProMinent competed against four handball teams: runnersup Swieqi Phoenix, La Salle, Kavallieri and Luxol H.C. In the women’s tournament, La Salle played against runners-up Aloysians, Swieqi Gasan Mamo Phoenix, Kavallieri RS2 and new contenders Birkirkara Handball.

Swieqi Phoenix’s Hungarian dynamo Krisztian Ocshleger is this tournament’s top scorer in the men’s division with 29 goals in four matches. La Salle’s ambidextrous forward, Krisztina Kalla, in the women’s division, totalled 32 goals.

The MHA Cup is organised by the Malta Handball Association and games were played every Saturday during the month of October at the University Sports Hall, Tal-Qroqq, Msida.

Both Men and Women handball leagues start on November 11.
