Sherpa-New Finance ‘Better Energy Management’ local training

-

The Ministry for Gozo and the Malta Intelligent Energy Management Agency organised a one-day training event in the framework of the Sherpa and New Finance transnational projects which are co-funded under the Interreg Med programme. Both projects fall under the programme thematic area of Efficient Buildings and focus on energy renovation projects in public buildings.

The aim of the event, which was held on 6 April at the Ministry for Gozo in Victoria, was to provide training to public authorities in relation to the use of innovative financing models, particularly Energy Performance Contracting that can be used for the implementation of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources projects in public buildings.

The training session was led by Ing. Filippo Intreccio, who was invited by Miema as an expert in energy management with years of experience in assisting Italian municipalities in the implementation and financing of energy related projects.

Various local stakeholders attended the training event, including mayors, repre- sentatives of the Department of Local Councils, the Gozo Business Chamber, the Gozo Regional Committee and staff members of the ministry that are responsible for different buildings located in Gozo. The attendees actively participated in the discussions that were held during the training and expressed their interest in the use of innovative financing models for the implementation of energy refurbishment projects.

The general objective of the New Finance project is to increase the confidence of public building owners and private investors to overcome the barrier in financing energy efficiency measures at local and regional level.

The project brings together six partners from Croatia, Malta, Italy, Spain, Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Miema shall be organising two other training sessions for public authorities during May.
