MAPFRE Middlesea supports Doctors for Road Safety

-

As part of its corporate initiatives, MAPFRE Middlesea supports Doctors for Road Safety in order to aid in further enhancing road safety. D4RS is a non-profit organisation founded by medical doctors and medical students who strive to achieve the highest possible standards of road safety in Malta and Gozo.

The NGO’s mission is to place Road Safety firmly on the national agenda by raising awareness, educating peers, educating the public and advocating with relevant stakeholders.

MAPFRE Middlesea sponsored the First Responder Doctor Training course, through which atten- dees were provided with both the knowledge and equipment they would need in order to address any Road Traffic Accidents. Under these circumstances, individuals who find themselves in such accidents may potentially benefit from receiving immediate medical attention by the first responders prior to the arrival of an ambulance.

During this edition of the First Responder Doctor Training, a total of 28 doctors completed the course, which was delivered by several Accident and Emergency consultants and specialists who are front liners in situations of road traffic accidents with severe casualties.

The course content was designed to provide the medical doctors and students with the knowledge they would need in both theoretical and practical scenarios. Dr Tonio Piscopo, Secretary of D4RS, remarked that on that same evening, the first use of the course was demonstrated through “an intervention by one of the attendees” after a quadbike accident that occurred in Paceville.

MAPFRE Middlesea intends to continue to support this initiative in the future in order help sustain road safety within Malta and Gozo.
