Dress Down for charity

-

Thomas Smith staff presented €2,000 to the Theuma family, victims of the fire that enveloped their home in Luqa in December. Funds were raised throughout the year 2018 in return for wearing casual attire to work. Every Friday is a Dress Down day at Thomas Smith Group, with the intent to collect donations from staff and aid those in need.

Every year, Thomas Smith and its employees select a charitable institution, cause or individual experiencing a tough patch. The accident which caused extensive damage to a house in the heart of Luqa touched Thomas Smith employees, especially since the family lived a few doors down from the Group’s offices. The fire left the couple with nothing to live on.

The fire, which spread within seconds, took 18 hours to be controlled by fire-fighters from the Civil Protection Department.

Joseph Theuma received the donation together with his wife Carmen, while praising Thomas Smith employees for the contribution. The Luqa parish priest, who was instrumental in raising money from the village community, was also present.

The donation was presented by employees Emanuel Azzopardi, Gian Paolo Azzopardi and Kimberley Sciberras.

Thomas Smith Group and its employees recognise the importance of the charitable organisations in Malta and their continual need for funding. Since the inception of Dress Down Fridays, the programme has donated more than €30,500 to Thomas Smith staff and individuals who were in need, as well as local charities.
