Qatar Airways announces new flight direct from Sydney to Malta via Doha
In 1915, World War One was spreading beyond Europe’s Western Front. This posed a great challenge for Europe’s armies in their defence against the enemy forces.
With greater battle campaigns presented with it more casualties, but where to treat them? The answer was a tiny island in the middle of the Mediterranean, known as Malta.
Hundreds of thousands of wounded soldiers were transferred to what was referred to as the “Nurse of the Mediterranean” many of these soldiers were Anzacs, injured during the Gallipoli landing.
More than 100 years on, and the relationship between Malta and Australia continues. And now Qatar Airways is making it easier for Aussies to visit this stunning rock on the shores of the Mediterranean.
Traditionally, Australian passengers wanting to visit Malta would need to do so via London. But now, that’s changed. Qatar Airways can fly you directly from Sydney to Malta via Doha.
