New aviation targets after 2019 goals for the sector reached

-

Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Ian Borg announced new targets for the aviation sector after the 2019 goals for the sector were reached. He described aviation as a very important industry for our country, since as an island we are dependent on connectivity by sea and air for commerce and transport to and from other countries.

“Today we are satisfied to say that the 9H aircraft registry has 400 registered aircraft; an important target we set in 2019 and which we reached thanks to the dedicated work of Transport Malta and the Civil Aviation Directorate within it,” the minister said.

He also announced that an Air Operator Certificate was being presented to Galistair, an efficient and sustainable operator with commitment towards the environment and said that our country’s targets for the sector also include better environmental standards towards improved sustainability.

“The results we have achieved mean more economic growth, more employment opportunities and we will not stop at achievements. We currently have five more applications for Air Operator Certificates and three more interested training organisations. We are looking beyond all this. In 2020 we want to reach 460 aircraft. We want to increase the number of operators. With these targets we are looking towards more growth in the sector; growth which also creates a demand for more jobs,” said Minister Borg.

He stressed that the human resource is essential for our country to continue giving unparalleled service which brings to our shores more investment and more operators and aircraft.

“We will continue working hard to sustain an efficient regulatory environment that is favourable both for the industry and its clients. Although we have achieved many successes, Malta has yet more potential and we will continue working to realise it. This is our vision for our country and we are committed to delivering it for all Maltese and Gozitan people,” concluded Minister Borg.
