“Especially during these pandemic times, we are witnessing the massive growth in the importance of digitisation,” stated David Xuereb, president of the Malta Chamber. Xuereb explained how the Chamber continuously encourages the use of digital financial services such as contactless payments to reduce cash and cheque usage while at the same time safeguarding the healthcare and digital sectors.
Speed and efficiency are now contributors of value in payment methods, according to Tonia Naudi, head of Multi-Channel Banking and Electronic Payments at Bank of Valletta. “Digitisation in the payments landscape pressures companies to transform their IT systems and cope with the next wave of innovation,” said Naudi. “The banking sector in Malta is introducing new ways of banking, shifting customers and businesses from the traditional cash and cheque payment methods to the much faster and safer digital banking solutions such as internet and mobile banking.”
Bank of Valletta is one of the main drivers of digital banking solutions in Malta and its suite of payment solutions is available for businesses, regardless of their size of operation, wanting to move from the costlier cash or cheque-based payments into more efficient and faster digital payments. The suite, which comes at a reduced price structure, includes options for both B2B payments and payments to and from other parties such as employees and customers. Additional solutions include contactless EPOS terminals, internet and mobile banking and mobile to mobile payments.
