Inclusion minister launches nominations for Fair Society Award
Government will be rewarding the dedication and commitment of people, voluntary organisations and workplaces that had an active role in further strengthening inclusion in the sector of disability, Inclusion Minister Julia Farrugia Portelli said.
She was launching nominations for the Fair Society Award, which will be given in December during the week dedicated to disability.
She explained how this recognition goes beyond just a trophy.
“This recognition is a demonstration of the government’s appreciation towards those people, voluntary organisations and workplaces that have managed to make a big and positive difference in the lives of people with disabilities.”
She added that in a special way, this award gives recognition to individuals with disabilities who are an inspiration to others and a reward for voluntary organisations that work tirelessly throughout the year and launch various initiatives related to this sector in order to increase inclusion.
Farrugia Portelli said that the principle that will guide the choices for this award will be that of having a fairer society, where people with disabilities take an active part in the community.
Jacob Cachia, who is the winner of the Fair Society Award 2021, said that through the achievements made, nowadays he is not only living in a more inclusive society but despite his disability is contributing back to the same society.
