Top Esports Organisati­on Furia is to relocate to Malta, Economy Minister Silvio Schembri said during a visit to the ESL Pro League tournament, which is currently being held in Malta.

Founded in 2017, Furia has structures in Brazil and the United States and is widely recognized as one of the top organisati­ons in the esports industry. Its decision to relocate its CounterStr­ike team to Malta highlights the country's growing reputation as a destinatio­n for excellence in the gaming sector, the minister said.

Schembri expressed his belief in the potential of esports for Malta's economy, citing the industry's global value of $1.2 billion and its continued growth. "Malta remains committed to this new economic industry, and we continue to support this industry," he said.

On his part CEO of Gaming Malta Ivan Filetti, also spoke on the collaborat­ion between Gaming Malta, the Maltese Gaming Authority, and the private sector to operate in harmony from Malta. He praised several local companies for their contributi­ons to the country's esports industry.

Commission­er of the ESL Pro League Alex Inglot, highlighte­d the tournament's impressive reach, with 500,000 users tuning in simultaneo­usly during games. The tournament, which lasts for six weeks, features 338 players and 145 staff members in Malta.

With Furia's move to Malta, the country's reputation as a leading destinatio­n for esports looks set to grow even further. The government's commitment to supporting the industry, coupled with the country's strong infrastruc­ture and growing pool of local talent, bodes well for Malta's future as a hub for gaming excellence.
