Valletta may extend their lead to nine points today

-

Defending champions Valletta should extend their lead to nine points at the top of the Premier League standings this evening when they take on bottom-placed Rabat in the second match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium in Hamrun.

At present, after eight rounds, the citizens enjoy a six-point lead. They have 22 points against the 16 of Birkirkara and Hibernians.

The citizens should be considered as overwhelming favourites to win all the three points against the modest Rabat side who still have to register a first win this season.

In today’s other match, Sliema should return to winning form after last week’s unexpected defeat against Balzan.

Today they will be meeting neighbours Melita and the Blues should also be considered favourites to grab the three points at stake.

But they will have to be on the alert as Melita finally won their first ever Premier League match last week when they beat Qormi 3-2.

The Amateurs will now hope to extend their positive run in the hope of bridging the gap between them and the teams above them in the standings.
