Micallef scores winner for Rabat

Umpires: Vella The season’s opener produced a goalless draw played out between Qormi and Young Stars.

Although Qormi had the better of exchanges in the first half, winning five penalty corners, and having a shot clear off the line by the 20th minute, half time was reached with no goals on the score sheet.

The start of the second half produced the save of the match when the Young Stars goalkeeper James Mizzi palmed the ball away diving full length to his right.

In the 40th minute Qormi hit the post and six minutes later Young Stars had a shot well saved by the Qormi keeper.

Qormi then forced six penalty corners between the 54th and 67th minute but could not find the net and the game ended in a no score draw.

Umpires: Reno Cremona Paul Brincat After a quiet opening phase the game sprung to life when Rabat hit the post in the 8th minute and went ahead in the 11th minute through Charlot Antonelli.

As a result of a penalty corner in the 15th minute Rabat were awarded a penalty stroke and Charlot Antonelli

failed to put his side further ahead pushing his shot past the post.

Hotsticks hit back and five minutes later they drew level through Steve Portelli. Although they won two penalty corners around the 30th minute the half time whistle was reached ending with honours even.

In the 44thminute a Hotsticks effort shaved the Rabat post and in the 46th minute Rabat had a shot well saved as a result of a penalty corner.

Hotsticks then applied a period of sustained pressure winning four penalty corners but failed to break the deadlock and from a breakaway move Rabat took the lead when Kevin Micallef netted to give his side the points.
