Frustration for Lazio, Tottenham
Lazio and Tottenham were among a number of clubs who endured frustrating nights yesterday .
Lazio remains top of Group J despite Toche striking in the 90th minute for Panathinaikos to cancel out Giorgos Seitaridis’ first-half own goal.
Three people were hurt and four detained after several hundred fans were involved in clashes before the match in Athens.
In Slovenia, Gylfi Sigurdsson retrieved a third straight draw for winless Tottenham at Maribor.
Inter was also facing frustration in Group H, but Rodrigo Palacio headed home in the 88th minute to secure a 1-0 victory over a stubborn Partizan Belgrade.
In Russia, Rubin Kazan, which shares the lead with Inter, relied on Alan Kasaev's first-half goal to beat Azerbaijani side Neftchi.
In Group A, Liverpool are the new leaders on six points after beating Anzhi 1-0 thanks to a 53rd minute goal from Downing.
In the other match, Young Boys Berne defeated a below par Udinese of Italy 3-1.
Bobadilla led his side to victory with a splendid hat-trick, one of them a penalty, while Coda had pulled one back for Udinese when it was 2-0.
In Group B, holders Atletico Madrid of Spain maintained their winning form, scoring another victory against Academica Coimbra of Portugal (2-1).
Their goals arrived in the second half through Costa and Belozoglu. Cisse scored the only goal for the Portuguese side five minutes from the end.
In Group C, Germany’s Borussia Moenchengladbach scored an important 2-0 win against French side Marseille.
With Fenerbahce beating Limassol 1-0 in Cyprus, the Turks lead the group on seven points. They are now followed by Marseille and Moenchengladbach – both have four points. Limassol remain on just one point.
English side Newcastle remained in command of Group D with a narrow 1-0 victory against Belgium’s Club Brugge. Their winner was scored by Obertan after 48 minutes.
In Group F, Italian side Napoli suffered another defeat.
This time they went down 3-1 to Dnipro scoring a penalty through Cavani 15 minutes from the end, after the home side had taken an impressive 3-0 lead with goals from Fedetskyy, Matheus and Giuliano.
In the other group match, PSV Einshoven and AIK Stockholm played a one-all draw in the Netherlands.
